Understanding Elbow Pain

Elbow pain most often comes from tendon overuse - tennis elbow (lateral) and golfer's elbow (medial) - and less commonly from arthritis or ligament injury. Tennis elbow in particular is a classic slow-healing tendon problem, which is why it is one of the best-studied targets for regenerative treatment.

How Regenerative Medicine Can Help

For chronic tennis elbow, PRP is one of the best-supported regenerative treatments anywhere: multiple randomized trials and meta-analyses show it provides better long-term relief than corticosteroid injection - often turning a temporary fix into a lasting one. PRP is used for golfer's elbow and other elbow tendinopathies as well, typically paired with a loading-rehab program.

What Realistic Success Looks Like

Honest and encouraging: chronic tennis elbow responds well, and many people who had failed rest, bracing, and cortisone improve with PRP - especially when they follow the rehab. Cortisone may feel better faster in the first few weeks, but PRP tends to win out by 6 months in the studies. Results still vary, and a good provider will confirm the diagnosis first.

Typical Costs

Usually not covered by insurance. PRP typically $500-$2,000 per treatment; a short series is sometimes used. Get the full protocol and rehab plan cost in writing.

Choosing a Provider Who Does It Well

Look for a provider who confirms whether your pain is tendinopathy, a tear, or arthritis, uses image guidance where helpful, and pairs the injection with rehab. Be cautious with clinics that market unapproved products as FDA-approved - the FDA has warned consumers about unapproved stem cell and exosome products.

Questions to Ask a Provider

Is my elbow pain tendinopathy, a tear, or arthritis? What does the evidence show for my case? What rehab is involved, and when will we judge success?
