Understanding Sports Injuries

Sports injuries range from acute sprains and tears to overuse tendinopathy and joint irritation. Treatment should reflect the injured tissue, injury grade, sport demands, timing, and the athlete’s functional goals.

Where Regenerative Medicine May Fit

PRP has its clearest support in selected chronic tendon problems, while findings for acute muscle injury, ligament injury, and surgical augmentation are more variable. Prolotherapy and bone-marrow-derived preparations are also offered, but evidence should be reviewed by diagnosis rather than under a single sports-injury label.

Planning Your Next Step

A sports-medicine plan should combine the procedure, when appropriate, with progressive rehabilitation and objective return-to-sport testing. Ask about the diagnosis, evidence, preparation, image guidance, expected timeline, and criteria for resuming training and competition.

Questions to Ask a Provider

  • What diagnosis or tissue is responsible for my sports injuries symptoms?
  • Which treatment are you recommending, and what evidence supports it for my diagnosis?
  • Who will perform the procedure, and will imaging or other guidance be used when appropriate?
  • What benefits, limitations, alternatives, recovery plan, follow-up, and total costs should I expect?
